UN-Habitat Jordan has implemented one public space project in Zarqa in collaboration with Zarqa Municipality to enhance social cohesion between local communities and refugees. Currently, the programme is implementing another three public space projects in Amman, Zarqa and Ghor Al Safi in collaboration with Greater Amman Municipality, the Housing and Urban development Corporation (HUDC) and Municipality of Ghor Al Safi. These projects are implemented in collaboration and with the support of Global Public Space Programme at UN-Habitat Headquarter.

BACKGROUND

The Arab region is undergoing a decade of profound change, where noticeable progress in some countries is clouded by difficulties in others. Individual Arab countries have distinctive needs, priorities, problems and economic, political, and social contexts. While there are apparent national differences, regional commonalities and trends can be observed.
