Outcomes Report: 2018 RLEx on Strengthening Land Governance in Asia-Pacific

Focusing on the theme Strengthening Land Governance in Asia-Pacific, the Regional Learning Exchange (RLEx) gathered 65 leaders from international, regional, and local NGOs/CSOs, government units, communities, academia, professional and private sector to share and learn about the experiences on various land administration policies and practices from 16 participating countries including Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, as well as United Kingdom (Europe), Colombia (Latin America), and Kenya (Africa). The RLEx was organized by the Technical Assistance Movement for People and Environment Inc. (TAMPEI) and Homeless People’s Federation Philippines Inc. (HPFPI) in partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) on February 6-7, 2018 at Mitin Conference Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Having the purpose of offering a platform through which land actors, particularly civil society organizations and local governments in the Asia-Pacific region to share their experiences in promoting land tenure security and land governance, the RLEx pursued the following objectives: 1. To promote knowledge sharing, experiences, good practices and lessons learnt on land tenure in both urban and rural areas; 2. To share findings and outcomes on the use and application of GLTN tools and approaches, as well as impact of rapid urbanization and urban expansion on land tenure security and land market; and 3. To identify and agree on key priority actions for improving land tenure security and promoting land governance which may include multi-stakeholder consultation mechanisms at country level; knowledge management and capacity building; and, application of innovative land tools and approaches.
