German Government to support GLTN to reinforce Land Tenure Security

German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has signed an Agreement of Cooperation with GLTN to strengthen Land Tenure and Food Security in three countries namely; Uganda, The Philippines and the People’s Democratic Republic of Lao. The Project titled “Secure Access to Land and Resources (SALaR)” aims at improving land and natural resources tenure security for poor rural smallholder farmers, particularly women, youth and vulnerable groups. The three year project will have three main outcomes, namely;
  • Increased uptake of land tools, approaches, frameworks and policy guidelines that are pro-poor, fit-for-purpose, and gender responsive,
  • Strengthened Capacity of Change Agents including rural poor women, men and vulnerable groups to implement pro-poor, fit-for-purpose and gender responsive land tools and approaches, and
  • Improved awareness among stakeholders on issues and measures for improving land and natural resource tenure security for poor women, men and vulnerable groups.
The project interventions will contribute to the efforts of the Federal Republic of Germany in improving food security conditions in developing countries while supporting the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests (VGGT) as an incremental framework to improve land governance and tenure security for pursuing the SDGs, taking into consideration the centrality of access to land in achieving those objectives as prescribed under the BMZ special initiative ‘One World-No Hunger’ .
