Publication Launch: Pro-poor Land Recordation

Publication Launch: Pro-poor Land Recordation Date: 18 September 2019, 14:30-15:30 (Bangkok time) Venue:  Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, Bangkok, Thailand GLTN is proud to announce the launch of the publication “Designing and Implementing a Pro-Poor Land Recordation System”, which is held at the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum on September 18th in Bangkok, Thailand. After its formation in 2006, the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) identified pro-poor land records as one tool, among others, needed to move the global land agenda forward. GLTN partners, such as the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente (the Netherlands), the International Union of Notaries (UINL), the International Alliance on Land Tenure and Administration (IALTA), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), have been very involved in the development of this pro-poor land recordation tool. In 2012, GLTN published the report “Designing a Land Records System for the Poor”. The new publication is a revision and expansion of that report, and summarizes the benefits of pro-poor land recording and identifies some of the critical problems that poor people experience with conventional land registration systems.  The pro-poor land recordation tool is closely linked with STDM and enumeration and could be implemented in parallel with either tool or with both. This publication is intended to be an important if limited step along a longer road towards the recognition, recordation and effective administration of a variety of appropriate and legitimate land tenure forms at scale.
